Founded in 2010, Operation: Social Santa is a toy drive for social media-driven communities around the world dedicated to giving back to under-privileged children around the world. Toy drives are comprised of one-night happy hours or “tweet-ups” where local professionals using social media are invited to network and connect with other professionals with the attendance fee being one toy for a local charity or organization. Partners have included Popchips, Airbnb, Eventbrite, Klout and Hootsuite – all of which helped us collect over 12,000 toys and organize 100+ community-led events in 50+ participating cities.
‘Why I Give Back’ Q&A with HootSuite’s Laura Horak
Operation: Social Santa is one of those rare opportunities where you get back more than you give. By participating you are able to connect with amazing people and create and share in some very special Christmas experiences, all while collecting toys for a good cause! It’s all about spreading the love and making kid’s smile.
Operation: Social Santa visits Benjamin Wallace
During the 2012 Social Santa toy drive, we learned about an incredible young man named Benjamin Wallace. Benjamin was known as a "frequent flier" at the Children's Hospital of Philadelphia, so we decided to pay him a visit while he was receiving treatment during the holiday season. From there, we had one of the most memorable days since our toy drive started... Hope this video brings you the holiday cheer it brought us!
